SELS Friends Scholarship Guidelines

Applicant Information
- Applicants must be members of the Southeast Library System.
- Preference is given to current SELS Friends members, to those who have not ever received a scholarship from SELS Friends in the past, and to first-time attendees at the event requested.
Event Information
- First priority is given to applications for in-state events, including the NLA/NEMA annual conference or System sponsored events (SELS must at least be one of the sponsors). Examples include the Training Extravaganza, the Youth Retreat, the Summer Reading program, etc.
- Second priority is given to regional or national conferences, such as ALA or MPLA.
- Third priority is given to academic classes that have a direct impact on the applicants' library position.
Application Process
- The opening of the application process will be made each year in July and in January. This opening shall be announced on the SELS and SELS Friends web pages and in the SOLIS newsletter, and other sites as deemed necessary.
- No more than 5% of the bank balance as of July 1 of the budget year may be expended during each 6 month time period.
- Two SELS Friends Board members and one SELS Board member shall form the application review team, with input (but no voting) by SELS staff.
- All decisions of the application review team are final.
The application form template shall be approved by both the SELS Friends Board and the SELS Board.
